10. The Opulence of the Absolute

  • TEXT 1: 
    The Supreme Lord said: My dear friend, mighty-armed Arjuna, listen again to My supreme word, which I shall impart to you for your benefit and which will give you great joy.
  • TEXT 2: 
    Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin, for, in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and the sages.
  • TEXTS 4-5: 
    Intelligence, knowledge, freedom from doubt and delusion, forgiveness, truthfulness, self-control and calmness, pleasure and pain, birth, death, fear, fearlessness, nonviolence, equanimity, satisfaction, austerity, charity, fame and infamy are created by Me alone.
  • TEXT 6: 
    The seven great sages and before them the four other great sages and the Manus [progenitors of mankind] are born out of My mind, and all creatures in these planets descend from them.
  • TEXT 7: 
    He who knows in truth this glory and power of Mine engages in unalloyed devotional service; of this there is no doubt.
  • TEXT 8: 
    I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who know this perfectly engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.
  • TEXT 9: 
    The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are surrendered to Me, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss enlightening one another and conversing about Me.
  • TEXT 10: 
    To those who are constantly devoted and worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
  • TEXT 11: 
    Out of compassion for them, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.
  • TEXTS 12-13: 
    Arjuna said: You are the Supreme Brahman, the ultimate, the supreme abode and purifier, the Absolute Truth and the eternal divine person. You are the primal God, transcendental and original, and You are the unborn and all-pervading beauty. All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala, and Vyāsa proclaim this of You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.
  • TEXT 3: 
    He who knows Me as the unborn, as the beginningless, as the Supreme Lord of all the worlds-he, undeluded among men, is freed from all sins.
  • TEXT 14: 
    O Kṛṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. Neither the gods nor demons, O Lord, know Thy personality.
  • TEXT 15: 
    Indeed, You alone know Yourself by Your own potencies, O origin of all, Lord of all beings, God of gods, O Supreme Person, Lord of the universe!
  • TEXT 16: 
    Please tell me in detail of Your divine powers by which You pervade all these worlds and abide in them.
  • TEXT 17: 
    How should I meditate on You? In what various forms are You to be contemplated, O Blessed Lord?
  • TEXT 18: 
    Tell me again in detail, O Janārdana [Kṛṣṇa], of Your mighty potencies and glories, for I never tire of hearing Your ambrosial words.
  • TEXT 19: 
    The Blessed Lord said: Yes, I will tell you of My splendorous manifestations, but only of those which are prominent, O Arjuna, for My opulence is limitless.
  • TEXT 20: 
    I am the Self, O Guḍākeśa, seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings.
  • TEXT 21: 
    Of the Ādityas I am Viṣṇu, of lights I am the radiant sun, I am Marīci of the Maruts, and among the stars I am the moon.
  • TEXT 22: 
    Of the Vedas I am the Sāma-veda; of the demigods I am Indra; of the senses I am the mind, and in living beings I am the living force [knowledge].
  • TEXT 23: 
    Of all the Rudras I am Lord Śiva; of the Yakṣas and Rākṣasas I am the lord of wealth [Kuvera]; of the Vasus I am fire [Agni], and of the mountains I am Meru.
  • TEXT 24: 
    Of priests, O Arjuna, know Me to be the chief, Bṛhaspati, the lord of devotion. Of generals I am Skanda, the lord of war; and of bodies of water I am the ocean.
  • TEXT 25: 
    Of the great sages I am Bhṛgu; of vibrations I am the transcendental om. Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himalayas.
  • TEXT 26: 
    Of all trees I am the holy fig tree, and amongst sages and demigods I am Nārada. Of the singers of the gods [Gandharvas] I am Citraratha, and among perfected beings I am the sage Kapila.
  • TEXT 27: 
    Of horses know Me to be Uccaiḥśravā, who rose out of the ocean, born of the elixir of immortality; of lordly elephants I am Airāvata, and among men I am the monarch.
  • TEXT 28: 
    Of weapons I am the thunderbolt; among cows I am the surabhi, givers of abundant milk. Of procreators I am Kandarpa, the god of love, and of serpents I am Vāsuki, the chief.
  • TEXT 29: 
    Of the celestial Nāga snakes I am Ananta; of the aquatic deities I am Varuṇa. Of departed ancestors I am Aryamā, and among the dispensers of law I am Yama, lord of death.
  • TEXT 30: 
    Among the Daitya demons I am the devoted Prahlāda; among subduers I am time; among the beasts I am the lion, and among birds I am Garuḍa, the feathered carrier of Viṣṇu.
  • TEXT 31: 
    Of purifiers I am the wind; of the wielders of weapons I am Rāma; of fishes I am the shark, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges.
  • TEXT 32: 
    Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the Self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth.
  • TEXT 33: 
    Of letters I am the letter A, and among compounds I am the dual word. I am also inexhaustable time, and of creators I am Brahmā, whose manifold faces turn everywhere.
  • TEXT 34: 
    I am all-devouring death, and I am the generator of all things yet to be. Among women I am fame, fortune, speech, memory, intelligence, faithfulness and patience.
  • TEXT 35: 
    Of hymns I am the Bṛhat-sāma sung to the Lord Indra, and of poetry I am the Gāyatrī verse, sung daily by brāhmaṇas. Of months I am November and December, and of seasons I am flower-bearing spring.
  • TEXT 36: 
    I am also the gambling of cheats, and of the splendid I am the splendor. I am victory, I am adventure, and I am the strength of the strong.
  • TEXT 37: 
    Of the descendants of Vṛṣṇi I am Vāsudeva, and of the Pāṇḍavas I am Arjuna. Of the sages I am Vyāsa, and among great thinkers I am Uśanā.
  • TEXT 38: 
    Among punishments I am the rod of chastisement, and of those who seek victory, I am morality. Of secret things I am silence, and of the wise I am wisdom.
  • TEXT 39: 
    Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being-moving or unmoving-that can exist without Me.
  • TEXT 40: 
    O mighty conqueror of enemies, there is no end to My divine manifestations. What I have spoken to you is but a mere indication of My infinite opulences.
  • TEXT 41: 
    Know that all beautiful, glorious, and mighty creations spring from but a spark of My splendor.
  • TEXT 42: 
    But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.

    Ни сонмы полубогов, ни великие мудрецы не знают Моих богатств, ибо Я первопричина всех полубогов и мудрецов.

  • Бг 10.3: 

    Из всех людей только тот, кто знает, что Я нерожденный и не имеющий начала верховный повелитель всех миров, неподвластен иллюзии и свободен от всех грехов.

  • Бг 10.4-5: 

    Разум, знание, свобода от сомнений и иллюзии, снисходительность, правдивость, способность обуздывать чувства и ум, счастье, горе, рождение и смерть, страх и бесстрашие, непричинение вреда, уравновешенность, удовлетворенность, аскетичность, щедрость, слава и бесславие — все эти разнообразные качества живых существ созданы Мной одним.

  • Бг 10.6: 

    Семь великих мудрецов, а до них четыре других великих мудреца, так же как и Ману [прародители человечества], появились из Меня, порожденные Моим умом, и от них пошли все живые существа, населяющие различные планеты.

  • Бг 10.7: 

    Тот, кто действительно постиг Мое величие и мистическое могущество, посвящает всего себя чистому преданному служению; в этом нет и не может быть никаких сомнений.

  • Бг 10.8: 

    Я источник всех духовных и материальных миров. Все исходит из Меня. Мудрецы, постигшие эту истину, служат и поклоняются Мне всем сердцем.

  • Бг 10.9: 

    Все мысли Моих чистых преданных поглощены Мной, и вся их жизнь посвящена Мне. Всегда делясь друг с другом знанием и беседуя обо Мне, они испытывают огромное удовлетворение и блаженство.

  • Бг 10.10: 

    Тех, кто постоянно служит Мне с любовью и преданностью, Я наделяю разумом, который помогает им прийти ко Мне.

  • Бг 10.11: 

    Желая оказать им особую милость, Я, находящийся в их сердцах, рассеиваю царящую там тьму неведения светочем знания.

  • Бг 10.12-13: 

    Арджуна сказал: Ты Верховная Личность Бога, высшая обитель, чистейший, Абсолютная Истина. Ты вечная, божественная, изначальная личность, нерожденная и величайшая. Все великие мудрецы, такие как Нарада, Асита, Девала и Вьяса, подтверждают эту истину, и теперь Ты Сам говоришь мне об этом.

  • Бг 10.14: 

    О Кришна, все, о чем Ты мне рассказал, я принимаю как истину. Ни полубоги, ни демоны, о Господь, не способны постичь Тебя.

  • Бг 10.15: 

    Воистину, только Ты, о Верховная Личность, источник всего сущего, властитель всех живых существ, Бог богов и повелитель вселенной, посредством Своей внутренней энергии знаешь Себя.

  • Бг 10.16: 

    Пожалуйста, подробно расскажи о Своих божественных достояниях, которыми Ты пронизываешь все миры.

  • Бг 10.17: 

    О Кришна, о высший мистик, как мне научиться постоянно думать о Тебе и как постичь Тебя? В каких из Твоих многочисленных проявлений должен я помнить Тебя, о Верховная Личность Бога?

  • Бг 10.18: 

    О Джанардана, еще раз прошу Тебя, расскажи как можно подробнее о Твоем мистическом могуществе и богатствах. Я никогда не устану слушать о Тебе, ибо чем больше я слушаю, тем сильнее жажду наслаждаться нектаром Твоих слов.

  • Бг 10.19: 

    Верховный Господь сказал: Хорошо, Я поведаю тебе о Своих блистательных проявлениях, но только о самых главных из них, о Арджуна, ибо величие Мое безгранично.

  • Бг 10.20: 

    О Арджуна, Я Сверхдуша, пребывающая в сердце каждого живого существа. Я начало, середина и конец всего сущего.

  • Бг 10.21: 

    Из Адитьев Я Вишну, среди светил — лучезарное солнце, из Марутов Я Маричи, а среди звезд Я луна.

  • Бг 10.22: 

    Из Вед Я «Сама-веда», среди полубогов Я царь небес Индра, из чувств Я ум, а в живых существах Я жизненная сила [сознание].

  • Бг 10.23: 

    Из Рудр Я Господь Шива, среди якшей и ракшасов Я хранитель сокровищ [Кувера], из Васу Я огонь [Агни], а среди гор Я гора Меру.

  • Бг 10.24: 

    Знай же, О Арджуна, что среди жрецов Я главный жрец, Брихаспати. Среди военачальников Я Карттикея, а среди водоемов — океан.

  • Бг 10.25: 

    Из великих мудрецов Я Бхригу, а среди звуков Я трансцендентный звук ом. Из жертвоприношений Я повторение святых имен [джапа], а из недвижимого — Гималайские горы.

  • Бг 10.26: 

    Из деревьев Я баньян, а из мудрецов среди полубогов — Нарада. Из Гандхарвов Я Читраратха, а среди совершенных живых существ Я мудрец Капила.

  • Бг 10.27: 

    Среди скакунов Я Уччайхшрава, появившийся на свет во время пахтанья океана. Среди могучих слонов Я Айравата, а среди людей — царь.

  • Бг 10.28: 

    Из оружия Я молния, среди коров Я сурабхи. Из причин появления потомства Я Кандарпа, бог любви, а среди змеев Я Васуки.

  • Бг 10.29: 

    Среди многоглавых нагов Я Ананта, а среди обитателей вод — полубог Варуна. Среди предков Я Арьяма, а среди вершащих правосудие — Яма, повелитель смерти.

  • Бг 10.30: 

    Среди демонов Дайтьев Я праведный Прахлада, из разрушительных сил Я время, среди зверей Я лев, а среди птиц — Гаруда.

  • Бг 10.31: 

    Из очистительных сил Я ветер, из носящих оружие — Рама, среди рыб Я акула, а среди полноводных рек — Ганга.

  • Бг 10.32: 

    Я начало, конец и середина всего сотворенного, о Арджуна. Из всех видов знания Я божественное знание о душе, а для логиков Я довод, приводящий к истине.

  • Бг 10.33: 

    Из букв Я буква «а», а из сложных существительных — двучленное. Я же вечное время, а из творцов Я Брахма.

  • Бг 10.34: 

    Я всепоглощающая смерть и созидательное начало всего, чему суждено появиться на свет. Из женщин Я Слава, Удача, Красноречие, Память, Разум, Целеустремленность и Терпение.*

  • Бг 10.35: 

    Из гимнов «Сама-веды» Я «Брихат-сама», а из стихотворных форм — гаятри.Из всех месяцев Я маргаширша [ноябрь-декабрь], а из времен года — цветущая весна.

  • Бг 10.36: 

    Из всех видов мошенничества Я азартная игра. Я блеск всего, что поражает великолепием. Я победа, Я приключение и сила сильных.

  • Бг 10.37: 

    Из потомков Вришни Я Ва̄судева, а из Пандавов — Арджуна. Среди мудрецов Я Вьяса, а среди великих мыслителей — Ушана.

  • Бг 10.38: 

    Из всех средств подавления беззакония Я кара. В тех, кто стремится к победе, Я нравственная чистота. Я безмолвие тайны и мудрость мудрых.

  • Бг 10.39: 

    Кроме того, о Арджуна, Я семя жизни. Ни одно сотворенное существо, движущееся или неподвижное, не может существовать без Меня.

  • Бг 10.40: 

    О могучий покоритель врагов, Моим божественным проявлениям нет конца. Я привел тебе только некоторые примеры Моих бесчисленных достояний.

  • Бг 10.41: 

    Пойми же, что все величественное, прекрасное и славное в этом мире порождено лишь искрой Моего великолепия.

  • Бг 10.42: 

    Но зачем тебе, о Арджуна, знать все эти подробности? Одной Своею частью Я пронизываю и поддерживаю всю вселенную.
